Pierrefonds man wants to dump Canada Post

PIERREFONDS-ROXBORO – Three years ago, Philip Maheux got an official letter from Canada Post saying that the stairs in front of his Pierrefonds home were too large.

He was given two months to change the steps, otherwise service would stop and he would have to pay a fee to get his mail delivered elsewhere.

The Pierrefonds resident spent $13,000 renovating his front steps.

After that, everything seemed fine.

That is, until he received a scribbled note from his mail-delivery person pointing out that his steps did not have railings and were icy in the winter.

Frustrated, Maheux said he’s ready to give up his postal service for good – but he’s not allowed to opt-out.

“There are people that need home delivery, give it to them,” he said.

Maheux’s only option is to pay to have his mail redirected, but he insisted he doesn’t need the service because he gets all his bills electronically.

When asked about Maheux’s request, Canada Post spokesperson Anick Losier told Global News “our mandate is to serve every address in Canada.”
