TORONTO – Police have issued a public safety alert after a dog allegedly became ill after ingesting a tainted treat at a Toronto area park last Friday.

It is alleged the owner brought his pet to a park in the Thorncliffe Park Drive and Overlea Boulevard area on Nov. 27 around 12:30 p.m. when he removed a green stick-like object in the dog’s mouth.

Upon returning home, police said the animal became violently ill.

Authorities said the owner returned to the park and located several more objects in the park.

The treats are described as 13 centimetres in length and have a very strong chemical smell.

Police said there is a concern other pets and children can potentially be exposed to the treats.
