No imminent threat linked to suspicious behaviour of two men on Toronto bridge: RCMP

TORONTO – The RCMP believe there is “no imminent threat” in connection to the suspicious behaviour of two men authorities are seeking to identify who were spotted on a Toronto bridge near the Rogers Centre earlier this summer.

“Investigators treat all reports of suspicious nature with the same determination and priority,” said Supt. Lise Crouch during a press conference Thursday morning at the RCMP’s detachment in Milton, Ont. “All leads are followed until they are resolved.”

Police said the incident was reported to security by a passerby on Aug. 31 at about 3:30 p.m. and subsequently brought to the attention of RCMP.

“The incident was reported to a private sector partner, who in turn reported to the local police, and subsequently a suspicious incident report was submitted to the RCMP’s national critical infrastructure team,” said Crouch.

Police said there were six other reported suspicious incidents in the John Street Bridge area during the same week.

“Each of those reports and each of those incidents were thoroughly investigated and able to be successfully concluded as not criminal in nature,” Crouch said.

Crouch would not reveal the nature of the suspicious incident police are seeking the two men for but said the other cases involved vehicles parked oddly and people taking pictures beyond boundaries.

Police said all the incidents were investigated by the RCMP’s National Critical Infrastructure Team which deals with possible threats to national security.

“I don’t think the public should be concerned at this time,” said Crouch.

The second man is also described as having brown skin and in his 20s with a medium build, police say. He was wearing a blue and yellow striped shirt with some purple stripes, dark blue jeans, a watch, blue Puma shoes with yellow laces and sunglasses hanging off of his shirt buttons.

Both men were identified on CCTV footage and the RCMP said they are reviewing further photographs and video.
