Edmonton police search for suspect in string of robberies targeting women

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Police Service is asking for the public’s help locating a suspect they believe is involved in four recent personal robberies involving older women.

Police said all four robberies happened in south Edmonton when the victims were either waiting for public transit or getting off a bus.

The first robbery took place on Wednesday, Nov. 18 in the area of 25 Avenue and 109 Street at around 6:45 p.m. Police said a 78-year-old woman was assaulted and had her purse stolen.

The next day, a 65-year-old woman was assaulted in the area of 57 Avenue and 111 Street at around 5:15 p.m. Her purse was also stolen.

On Saturday, Nov. 21 at about 5:25 p.m. a 58-year-old woman was approached while waiting at the Southgate Transit Station. Police said she was assaulted and had her purse stolen.

The most recent robbery took place this past Sunday at around 8:40 p.m, when a 54-year-old was approached in the area of the Lakewood transit station. Police said she was assaulted and had her purse stolen.

The suspect in all four cases is described as a man in his 20s with a think build. He was wearing dark clothing at the time of the robberies.
