Rockets Baillie named WHL Player of the Week

The Western Hockey League announced today that Kelowna Rockets forward Tyson Baillie has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 22nd, 2015.

Baillie recorded seven points (3g-4a) to go along with a plus-5 rating in three games to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a record of 3-0-0-0 for the week.

On Wednesday, November 18th against the Kamloops Blazers, Baillie tallied a pair of assists, including the primary assist to set up the overtime winner for teammate Rodney Southam in the Rockets 4-3 win. On Friday, November 20th, Baillie was named the game’s second star after he recorded two points (1g-1a) in the Rockets 6-1 victory against the Edmonton Oil Kings. The following night, Baillie recorded three points (2g-1a) against the Vancouver Giants to cap off a productive week. Baillie earned first star honours as the Rockets defeated the Giants by a score of 5-2.

The 20-year-old Fort Saskatchewan, AB native has collected 41 points (16g-25a) in 23 games this season to sit second overall in League scoring. The 5-11, 196 lb forward is in his fifth WHL campaign with Kelowna and has amassed 256 points (111g-145a) in 282 career WHL regular season contests.

The WHL has also nominated Declan Hobbs of the Kootenay ICE for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Hobbs, a 1998-born netminder from Saskatoon, SK, posted a record of 1-1-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and a .957 save percentage in two starts. On Tuesday, November 17th, Hobbs turned aside 39 shots against the Everett Silvertips in a 2-0 defeat and was named the game’s first star for his efforts. On Saturday, November 21st against the Swift Current Broncos, Hobbs was solid as he stopped 27 shots to propel the ICE to a 2-1 win and earn his first career WHL victory. Hobbs also claimed first star honours for his performance. Currently in his first season with the ICE, Hobbs has posted a 1-4-2-0 record in 10 career WHL regular season appearances.
