A witness told police the 32-year-old male driver had pulled the 25-year-old woman out of an SUV and onto the sidewalk in the 2600 block of 33 Avenue S.W. The pair got back into the SUV, drove east on 33 Avenue, turned north onto Crowchild Trail S.W. and then lost control.

Police said at about 4:50 p.m., the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe left 80 metres of tire scuff marks as it spun across four lanes of traffic. The SUV went off the road, broke through a concrete sound barrier wall, and then stopped on the grass boulevard on the east side of Crowchild Trail S.W.
