WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – The smell of fire prompted a West Kelowna couple to call 911 Friday night, allowing them time to exit their home and fire crews to douse flames before it caused too much damage.
West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund says they attended the fire call at the Sun Village community on Butt Road with eight firefighters, two engines and one command unit.
They found heavy smoke in the attic of the single storey home’s garage.
A small fire was located and put out quickly.
Brolund says the fire was electrical in nature and has been deemed accidental.
The residents of the home have been put up for the night at a local hotel with the help of Emergency Social Services.
Residents are reminded to check their smoke alarms as they are often the first indication of fire if you’re asleep.
