Jesse Reynolds sentenced to 5 years after death of Jessica Miller

SAINT JOHN – Jesse Reynolds has been sentenced to five years in prison, Justice William Grant ruled in a Saint John courtroom Friday afternoon.

The 20-year-old man plead guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of Jessica Miller, 20, from Apohaqui, N.B., in July.

The Crown Prosecutor in the case had recommended a five-year sentence which was not contested by the defence.

Justice Grant said Reynolds had started using drugs at the age of 10, and drinking alcohol at 12. He said Reynolds has little chance of rehabilitation unless he gets his addiction under control.

He also said he believes Reynolds remorse is genuine. He said it has been clear Miller’s death has had a deep impact on extended family and friends.

Miller has been described as smart, funny and compassionate by those her knew her. Her sudden death shocked the communities of Sussex and Apohaqui.
