REGINA – Saskatchewan already has its own emblem and provincial flower, but now it’s looking for its own distinct fossil.

It’s part of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum’s new 2016 Fossil Campaign Exhibit.

The exhibit includes seven fossils on display that the public can check out and then vote for their favourite.

Nova Scotia and Manitoba also have their own provincial fossils and now Saskatchewan wants one to recognize the province’s fossil history.

“We want to make people aware of the rich fossil history in the province and really draw attention to that. So, it’s partly an educational tool and partly the value of our fossil heritage,” said Harold Bryant, the director of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum.

The exhibit will be on through the winter and the winning provincial fossil will be announced in the spring.
