Stanley Park Seawall to remain closed for several weeks after storm damage

Vancouver Park Board

The Stanley Park Seawall will be closed for several weeks after sustaining heavy damage in stormy weather earlier this week.

On Monday, a section of the outer seawall and cap collapsed due to high winds and waves in the area between Third Beach and the Lions Gate Bridge.

Tiina Mack, Manager of Park Development with the Vancouver Park Board, told Global News the seawall is safe, but geotechnical and structural engineers are preparing a repair design.

The board plans to meet with contractors as soon as possible, on either Friday or Monday.

Mack says, depending on contractors ability to mobilize, work should be underway within two weeks and completed within four. The seawall will likely re-open within two weeks, but the repair area will be closed and cordoned off.

The board will be providing updates on the repairs on social media. Meanwhile, it is asking park visitors to be mindful of the signs and by pass routes posted in the park.
