One person was home at the time of the fire and managed to escape to safety but was transported to hospital because of smoke inhalation.

Carol Henke with the Calgary Fire Department stressed the importance of making sure that smoke alarms are working.

“There’s a lot of toxic chemicals in that smoke, you’re taking in carbon monoxide as well,” Henke said. “If your smoke alarm activates, get out of the house quickly… never go back inside.”

Fire investigators arrived Monday afternoon to try and determine the cause of the house fire.
