UPDATE (May 31, 2016): The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who was found dead in a swimming pool in Burnaby on May 6.

He was Edward Luvuuma, aged 33, who has been missing since last November.

On May 6, a householder in Burnaby was uncovering the family’s outdoor pool for the summer season and found Luvuuma, deceased, in the pool.

He is believed to have died close to the time he was reported missing.

There is no evidence that the family knew Luvuuma at any time.

The BC Coroners Service and Richmond RCMP continue to investigate this death. Foul play is not suspected.

A search is underway for a missing 32-year-old teacher from Uganda.

Edward Luvuuma arrived in Burnaby on Friday, Nov. 13.

RCMP say he was last seen at 10:30 p.m. in the area of the 7700-block of Cumberland St.

He is a teacher in Uganda and works with a children’s choir that has been on tour of Christian churches in North America since February. It is sponsored by a Canadian organization based in B.C.

Before he went missing, Luvuuma was supposed to be at a residence on Cumberland St. to chaperon the children.

“We want to emphasize that he is not in any trouble,” says Burnaby RCMP Staff Sgt. Major John Buis. “We simply want to confirm his well-being. He has many colleagues, both here in B.C. and in Uganda, who want to make sure he is safe.”

Luvuuma is 5’6″ tall, 150 pounds, with a slim build and shaved bald head. He was wearing light-blue jeans and a dark-green golf shirt.

A number of people in the church community around the Lower Mainland are out looking for Luvuuma.

“He is not from here, he does not know the local area,” says Buis. “His friends and family are very concerned because it’s very unusual for him to disappear.”

Buis says they don’t suspect any foul play was involved at this point.
