EDMONTON — Police shut down a busy downtown Edmonton street for about an hour during the morning commute on Monday because of a report of a suspicious package.

Shortly before 8 a.m., 109th Street was closed in both directions from 102nd to 103rd Avenue.

Police said the situation was unfolding, so details were limited, but anticipated the morning commute would be affected.

Crane operator Terry McDougall said he could see police cars blocking off 109th from his perch 50 feet up in the air, but couldn’t see the alleged package.
