FREDERICTON – Police in the province’s capital have confirmed the person suspected in connection with the theft of cenotaph plaques has turned himself in.
Alycia Bartlett, spokesperson for the Fredericton Police Force, confirmed the adult male turned himself into police Thursday morning.
“Charges are forthcoming,” she said. “It was an active investigation, and one that is continuing today.”
She said the police appreciate the community support as they worked to apprehend the suspect.

Chief Leanne Fitch said after Fredericton’s Remembrance Day ceremony Wednesday that police knew who the suspect was.
“We know he is hiding underground somewhere. And it’s not a matter of if, but when we make the arrest,” she said.
Replacement plaques were made, listing those from Fredericton who lost their lives in the two World Wars, just in time for the ceremony.
The plaques had surfaced at a metal recycling business, but the names have been ground off.
