Former MP Peter Stoffer talks final legion tour, veterans’ issues

DARTMOUTH, N.S. – Former Sackville-Eastern Shore NDP MP Peter Stoffer visited Royal Canadian Legion branches on Remembrance Day to give gifts from the Dutch government.

“It’s poignant for myself because I was born in Holland,” he said at branch 160.

Stoffer presented a banner reading an all-caps thanks to Canada for its role in the liberation of the Netherlands.

Stoffer, who lost his seat in the House of Commons earlier this year, said he has gone on 18 prior branch tours; Wednesday’s is planned to be his last.

Previously, he was the NDP’s Veterans Affairs critic, a position he had the “most personal” connection to.

In a video interview at the top of this page, Stoffer also discussed his future helping veterans, some of the challenges the federal government will face to properly support them, and more.
