N.B. sees 4,100 more people employed in October

FREDERICTON – New Brunswick saw gains in employment in October, according to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey.

In the province, 4,100 more people were employed in October. But the unemployment rate was little changed at nine per cent, up slightly from September’s 8.8 per cent.

According to the survey, it reflects an increase in labour market participation. The labour force grew by 5,600.

There was an added 1,200 full-time jobs and 2,900 part-time ones.

Employment surges by 44,000 nationally

The country’s economy added a sharply higher than expected number of new jobs in October, snapping months of sluggish employment gains, Statistics Canada said Friday.

The federal agency said employment climbed by 44,000 positions last month, sending the jobless rate down one tenth of a percentage point, to 7 per cent.
