WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will start a fifth different quarterback when they play the Toronto Argonauts on Friday in their regular season finale.

Dominique Davis will make his first career CFL start after beginning the season on the club’s practice roster. The Bombers have already started four different quarterbacks this season in Drew Willy, Brian Brohm, Robert Marve and Matt Nichols.

Davis, 26, will play in his first non-exhibition game since he was with East Carolina University back in 2012. It’s been a long time in the making after spending time with the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and the Calgary Stampeders. He joined the Bombers in June after getting released by the Stamps in training camp.

“I’m very excited,” Davis said. “This is my first career start. I’m just going to keep preparing and getting ready for Friday. It’s an honour to get this call. Even though this game isn’t meaningful, it means a lot to you know a lot of individuals that don’t get a lot of playing time. This is big for us.”

“Let’s see what he can do,” Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea said. “We still go into the game believing we’re going to win the game and throughout the practice week Dom showed us that he’s going to give us a chance to win.”

With the Bombers eliminated from playoff contention they are using the game as an evaluation tool for next season. Davis came off the practice roster in August after the injury to Willy and has been dressing as the Bombers third stringer.

“I’m just going in here to try to execute plays and get a win,” said Davis.

The Bombers (5-12) close out the season on Friday against the Argonauts (9-8) in their last game at Rogers Centre after 27 years under the dome.
