NEUVILLE, QUE. – A woman in her 50s is dead after a head-on collision with a car Saturday morning on route 138 in Neuville, west of Quebec City.
Sûreté du Québec spokesperson, Eloïse Cosette, said the victim died on impact.
According to witnesses, the driver of the car veered from his lane in a slight curve and struck the cyclist who was traveling in the opposite direction, head-on.
The jaws of life were necessary to free the driver from his vehicle, which had landed in a ditch.
Investigators say that speed, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision.
Officers believe the driver, who suffered only minor injuries, may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
