WINNIPEG – The Sisler Spartans have clinched first place in the Winnipeg High School Football League’s junior varsity division.

The Spartans closed out the regular season with a 57-21 trouncing of the Tec Voc Hornets at Tec Voc High School on Wednesday.

The win gives the Spartans a 5-1 record for a share of first place with the defending champion Vincent Massey Trojans.  But the Spartans have the tiebreaker and claim top spot by virtue of their 14-9 win over the Trojans back on September 30.

The Spartans will face St. Paul’s in next weeks junior varsity semifinals after the Crusaders lost their final game to finish in fourth place at 3-3. The Crusaders were beaten by the Oak Park Raiders 49-7 on Wednesday.  Oak Park finished in third and will face the Trojans in the other semifinal next Wednesday.

In the final game Grant Park defeated Kelvin 36-8 in a matchup of non-playoff teams.

The varsity division starts the playoffs on Thursday with the quarterfinals.
