CALGARY – RCMP closed a section of Highway 2A in southern Alberta on Friday due to a fatal crash.
Emergency crews were called to a collision on Highway 2A near Aldersyde, just south of Okotoks, at around 10:50 a.m.
A head-on collision happened between a the lone driver of a Ford Edge and a Honda Civic with 3 people in it.
EMS found one woman dead at the scene.
“A southbound Honda Civic collided with a Ford Edge. Witnesses observed the Civic to wander or lose control in its lane and cross the line where it collided with the Ford Edge,” said Okotoks RCMP Staff Sgt. Jim Ross.
Two men were rushed to hospital in Calgary, one in potentially life-threatening condition and the other in serious condition, suffering from non life-threatening internal injuries.
A fourth woman, who was driving the Ford Edge, was taken to the Rockyview General Hospital with minor injuries.
STARS Air Ambulance was called to the scene, but didn’t transport anyone to hospital.
The woman killed was in the Honda Civic with the two men.
Highway 2A remains closed between Highway 7 and 418 Avenue.
“Road conditions and the weather was good at the time. A traffic analyst is analyzing the scene and then taking witness statements into account and I’m sure they’ll try to view the vehicles and try to determine what the actual cause of the accident was,” said Ross.
The hamlet of Aldersyde is located about 10 kilometres south of Okotoks and about 55 kilometres south of Calgary.
