WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg South Centre riding is one that the Liberals could claim from the Conservatives according to pollsters.

Tory incumbent Joyce Bateman won the riding in 2011 after it had been held by the Liberals for 32 years.

A boundary change in this riding could help Bateman’s chances of holding onto the seat.

The Lindenwoods neighbourhood was added to this riding for the election.  If it had been part of the riding in the 2001 election Bateman would have won by more than 2,000 votes instead of by more than 700.

Former MLA and local businessman Jim Carr is trying to take the riding back for the Liberals.

Carr voted this morning right after polls opened at 8:30 a.m. and then helped a 106-year-old vote before thanking volunteers at several campaign offices in the riding.

NDP candidate Matt Henderson spent his day working.  The high school teacher at St. John’s-Ravenscourt School joined his campaign team after 5 p.m.

“More than half of our people have already voted and we’re working on the rest, seems like turnout is high,” says Henderson’s campaign manager Lindsay Stewart.
