WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg Blue Bombers super fan is taking her love of the football team to the next level.

81-year-old Joan Walsh has collected gear, schwag and even a piece of the official endzone turf, but now she’s showing her Bomber pride in a big way.

After being a season ticket holder for more than 30 years, Walsh decided she was going to step up her suppport.

The Transcona senior has painted her home in the team’s official colours.

Walsh’s husband Ernie passed away a year and a half ago. While Ernie wasn’t a big fan and didn’t go to the games with her, he used to drive her to every game.

“He always brought me there and dropped me off,” said Walsh. “He would listen to the game and he would be right there to pick me up when the game was over”

A few weeks ago her neighbours noticed her house needed a paint job and when the elderly woman said she wanted it awash in her favourite team’s colours, no one hesitated.

“Her daughter said ‘do you know any painters?’ and I said I could do it. So I took on the job,” said neighbour Norman Lavalee.

They’ve lived next door to one another for 16 years and have become good friends.

“She’s an elderly lady, and she goes to every game, that’s pretty amazing,” he said.

Walsh plans on keeping her home painted blue and gold for the foreseeable future, and already has tickets to the 103rd Grey Cup Festival.
