Daddy’s Girl: Soldier’s formation interrupted when little girl rushes to embrace returning father

While soldiers made their long-awaited return home Tuesday, it was an unexpected moment from a little girl that stole the show and warmed hearts in Colorado Springs.

“She was excited. She spotted me from a couple rows back and she couldn’t contain herself,” Daniel Oglesby told KKTV.

One of Oglesby’s two daughters interrupted the homecoming ceremony and raced across the floor to embrace her father for the first time in eight months.

Oglesby was standing at attention at the time but didn’t hesitate to ignore the standard rules and broke formation.

His wife of four years, Kristine, was also in the crowd.

“Being gone for eight months–it’s tough,” he explained. “But once you see the look on their faces when you get back makes it worth it.”

Oglesby was one of 300 soldiers from Fort Carson’s 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division to return home Tuesday after a tour of Southwest Asia.
