A photographer in Norway has captured some breathtaking images of humpback whales playing at night underneath the spectacular northern lights.

NRK photographer Harald Albrigtsen says he was testing a new Sony A7 camera Monday and Tuesday evening off the coast of Kvaløya (Whale Island) near Tromsø. The camera can capture images in very low-light conditions.
He called it “a dream for many” because witnessing whales splashing around under the beauty of the Aurora Borealis is very rare.

Albrigsten has made a name for himself for his images of the northern lights. Earlier this year he also captured footage of reindeer grazing under the lights.
