Corporate aircraft donated to Okanagan College in Vernon

VERNON – Things are looking up at Okanagan College in Vernon.

The institution is the new owner of a corporate turboprop airplane.

Even though the plane is used, it’s the most valuable equipment gift in the college’s 50 plus year history.

The British Aerospace Jetstream 31 will be used as a teaching tool for students taking aircraft maintenance engineering.

The plane is one of four being donated to Canadian colleges by the Swanberg family.

It’s shutting down its Alberta based company that provided cargo and passenger services in three provinces.

“Our family is very proud to be able to support the next generation of aircraft maintenance engineers,” says Loren Swanberg in a news release. “Continuous education and hands-on training is so important in the aviation industry.

The college president says the plane will provide valuable training experience for students for years to come.

“On behalf of Okanagan College, I want to express our sincere gratitude to the Swanberg family for this support,” says Jim Hamilton.

The plane is valued at about $700,000.
