Black bear spotted in southwest Calgary

CALGARY – Fish and Wildlife officers relocated a black bear that was spotted in the community of Woodlands on Tuesday.

Residents noticed the bruin in the area of 17 Street and Woodgrove Crescent S.W. at around 7:30 a.m.

By the time firefighters and police officers arrived at the scene, the bear had climbed up a tree.

Fish and Wildlife officers tranquilized the animal, and then used a fire truck to scale the tree and rescue the bear.

The bear was placed in a trap, ear tagged and driven away to be relocated somewhere west or northwest of the city.

Officials said the bear was an older male, and believed it likely came in from nearby Fish Creek Park.
