Fentanyl behind southeast break and enters: Calgary police

CALGARY – Police say two men arrested in southeast break and enters were motivated by a desire to get fentanyl.

Officers arrested both men on Wednesday in connection to two separate incidents.

The first suspect was taken into custody in the 600 block of Radcliffe Road S.E. following a break and enter in the area. He allegedly had items taken during the crime in his possession.

The same day, officers spotted a suspect breaking into a garage in the area of the 1600 block of Radisson Drive S.E. He was taken into custody following a short foot chase.

Police charged Cody Larocque, 25, with break and enter to commit an offense, possession of break and enter tools and failing to comply with a court order.

In addition, officers charged Dean Gallant, 40, with break and enter to commit an offense and three outstanding criminal code warrants.

In a news release, police said it’s believed that these offenses “were committed in an effort to obtain items that could be liquidated for drugs, more specifically fentanyl.”

Investigators don’t believe the two suspects were working together.

Further charges are expected to be laid.
