TORONTO – Police have announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of a suspect wanted in connection to the shooting death of a Toronto teen in Regent Park last year.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and later succumbed to his injuries. The victim was identified as 18-year-old Yusuf Ali.

Investigators said the victim was walking with two friends when he was fatally shot.

Police said the suspect fled the scene and is described as in his 20s, with light brown skin, lean build and over six-feet tall.

It is further alleged the suspect was dropped off at Parliament Street by a new-model silver car following the shooting.

A friend of the victim’s family said there’s no reason why young people are dying in the community and the cycle of violence needs to stop.

“How many young people we have to bury? There’s no justice,” said Sureya Ibrahim, who attended the press conference on the reward announcement on Tuesday.

“As a mom, it’s very hard and losing a child and there’s no justice being served.”

Police said they have reviewed security camera footage in the area and are urging any witnesses to come forward.
