A happy ending: Tantallon couple adopts Miracle the dog

HALIFAX – A dog that was struck by a car then stuck in its bumper for nearly 200 kilometres before it was discovered has found a permanent home.

There’s a happy ending to the story of Miracle the dog, which Global News broke last month – the young pup has been adopted by a Tantallon couple.

Terri Buckland and Christine Doucette have fostered three other animals from Litters and Critters Rescue, but they said there was something special about Miracle that made them want to keep her permanently.

“I don’t know if it’s her demeanour and just her natural comfort with all the situations, all the dogs and us,” said Doucette.

“I think our lives are more complete now that she’s with us. It means everything to know she’s getting what she deserves, which is love every day, a family and a safe place to be.”

The couple recently lost another family dog two weeks ago. They said Miracle has helped them heal.

“We feel honoured to have this dog that made it against all odds and she’s very, very special to us,” Buckland said.

“She fit into our family like a glove. She’s just brought so much love, light, fun, puppiness and affection to our home.”

Shelley Cunningham, president of Litters and Critters Rescue, said she is thrilled about the happy ending for the animal.

“It’s the icing on the cake,” she said. “This is what she needs. The family that she’s going to I cannot even imagine a family that would have been more perfect for her. I can’t imagine her being more perfect to the family she is going to.”

Miracle, for her part, is slowly on the mend. Cunningham said she is responding well to her medication and the stitches in the dog’s face will be removed next week.

Buckland said Miracle now has more energy, can take longer walks and jump whereas she had to be carried before.

“I think she’s going to be rambunctious. I think she’s going to be the puppy that she should be,” she said.
