Looking to improve your game? Sports performance conference hits Montreal

MONTREAL -The first edition of the  Journées Médico-Sportives (JMS) is underway at Place Bonaventure this weekend.

Organizers are touting the event as the largest convention on sports performance in Canada and runs from Oct. 2 to Oct.4.

JMS general manager Patrice Laferrière, says that 40 seminars are scheduled over the course of the weekend, featuring a wide variety of topics from injury prevention, to nutrition and athletic performance.

There’s even a session on how bad posture affects personality and pain, presented by Sylvain Guimond who has a PhD in sports psychology and is a consultant for the Montreal Canadiens hockey team.

The goal of the event is to give the public a chance to meet a wide range of sports performance professionals under one roof and to gain from their knowledge and expertise.

The convention floor features some 100 exhibitors, a sports movement technical analysis centre and 25 demonstrations on cutting-edge techniques and technologies.

The event isn’t geared only to elite athletes, but to young and old alike who enjoy an active lifestyle.

Laferrière says he’s pleased with this year’s turnout so far and hopes to build on what he’s learned as he prepares for the 2016 edition of the Journées Médico-Sportives.
