“This pains me”: Regina Mayor settles bet and raises Blue Bombers flag

REGINA – A bet is a bet and despite his reluctance, Regina Mayor Micheal Fougere raised the Winnipeg Blue Bombers flag outside city hall on Friday morning.

Fougere was settling a bet with Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman after making a friendly wager last month over who would win the annual Banjo Bowl between the Roughriders and Blue Bombers.

“This will be the shortest flag raising in history,” joked Fougere before hoisting the flag for a few short minutes. “We’ll keep this going, this is going to be a tradition for us. Whoever wins gets the other flag outside city hall.”

A trophy is also being designed for the future to be passed back and forth over who wins the series.

Despite having to raise the flag, the Mayor has no hard feelings towards the Riders and has complete faith they’ll win against the BC Lions on Saturday.
