FEATURE: Cowboy Vacation

NEAR KYLE, SK – Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I obviously suggested we take the wrong one. We’ve taken a lot of road trips over the seasons producing Focus Saskatchewan, which means we’ve gotten lost a lot. There are, after all over 250,000 kilometres of roads in Saskatchewan. But I digress…

When Derek and I approached a fork in the road immediately after passing the sign to La Reata Ranch (near Kyle, SK about an hour north of Swift Current) we didn’t argue over which road to take: the one that actually looked like a road and not well, a cow trail. This one certainly had to be the right one…right?

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

As ranch boss, George Gaber put it: “It’s just the whole thing in Europe. Everyone wants to be a cowboy one time.”

Why? Well, it’s partly this ability to unplug and partly a little James Dean romance. (Gaber chose the Spanish name, La Reata, inspired by a 1956 western flick starring the iconic American movie star).
