REGINA – Regina Police had to use a taser on a man early Thursday morning after he was threatening to hurt himself.

Police were called to the 0-99 block of Schemmer Bay where it was reported that a male who was using illegal drugs was in possession of a knife and threatening to hurt himself.

When police arrived they forced open a barricaded bedroom door and found a 48-year-old man in the bedroom who was extremely agitated and appeared to have something clenched in each fist.

One of the officers deployed his taser at the man, but his clothing deflected the tase and it was ineffective. Then the other officer used his taser, and was able to get the man on the floor and bring him into custody.

The man refused EMS treatment but he was taken to hospital for assessment.
