Toronto police release images of alleged knife-wielding cellphone thief

TORONTO – Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a man wanted for allegedly using a large kitchen knife in two cellphone thefts in Toronto’s Thorncliffe Park area two months ago.

Police said the first incident happened on Aug. 12 around 2 p.m. after a 33-year-old man entered an elevator at an apartment building at 53 Thorncliffe Park Drive.

It is alleged the suspect followed the man, pulled out a knife, demanded the victim’s cellphone and took off.

The second incident took place on Aug. 28 around 2 p.m. when a 21-year-old woman was approached by the suspect in an elevator at 27 Thorncliffe Park Drive.

As with the first case, the suspect proceeded to pull out a knife and demanded her cellphone before exiting on the fifth floor.

The man is described as in his 20s, with a beard, short black hair, 5’8″ to 6’0″ tall, with a thin build.
