Sask. girl reunited with lost teddy bear after unusual journey home

A little girl from Martensville, Sask. is clinging to her teddy bear a little tighter these days. Four-year-old Phoebe was recently separated from her best friend, Ra Ra, at Toronto’s Pearson Airport. Her mother says she broke down once she realized her stuffed animal was left behind.

“I lost him. And I didn’t know I didn’t take him on the airplane,” said Phoebe.

Her mother, Jen Steel, says Phoebe has been attached to the stuffed animal since birth and doesn’t go anywhere without him.

“It’s her security, you know. It’s what she knows. It helps her go to sleep,” she said.

Phoebe’s mom contacted the airport to see if Ra Ra was anywhere to be found. Airport staff not only found him, but had some fun documenting his journey from Toronto to Saskatoon.

Ra Ra had a chance to test out the insides of airport security scanners and moving sidewalks. He even had a chance to try on some Blue Jays’ gear and made a new friend, now named Pearson. And before the Steel family knew it, Ra Ra was home.

“We just can’t believe it. Just so thankful that they took the time for something like that. It’s just so sweet,” said Steel.

In a phone conversation, officials at Toronto’s Pearson Airport said they were happy they could help. Staff said they didn’t want to send Ra Ra home without a story for Phoebe to tell.

Staff also posted the photos of his trek to Facebook, where the story turned Ra Ra into an internet sensation.

“Thanks for this spot of sunshine on my newsfeed today!” said Nancy Marchiotti in a Facebook post.

Since then, the post has been shared close to 600 times.

“We’re kind of shell shocked. We can’t believe it. It’s just kind of surreal really,” said Steel. “It makes us kind of chuckle, too. Because to us, it’s just Ra Ra. It’s just like a family member. It’s just her little bear.”
