UPDATED: Penticton’s Main St. reopens after fire

PENTICTON — Streets in downtown Penticton have reopened to traffic after a structure fire Wednesday morning.

Penticton firefighters were called to the 200 block of Main Street shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday where smoke was coming from two businesses — Fibonacci’s and Hooked on Books.

Officials say the fire was discovered in the floor space and extended into the offices above.

The building’s owner, Nikos Theodasakis, says he is relieved no one was hurt.

“From what I understand there’s a lot of smoke damage, as well as whatever fire damage was caused. We’ll just have to wait and see I guess,” says Theodasakis.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Fibonacci’s customer Colleen Murphy says she was shocked when she learned about the fire.

“They’re family people who own this,” says Murphy. “I just ran into the lady who owns it and she’s in shock. It’s a fire what do you expect.”
