Nominations for FSIN chief, vice-chiefs close today

SASKATOON – Nominations close at noon Monday for those who want to run for chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN). The positions of first vice-chief and third vice-chief are also open.

Perry Bellegarde was elected chief three years ago, but resigned in December 2014 after he was elected chief of lead the Assembly of First Nations.

FSIN vice-chief Kimberly Jonathan, who was named the interim chief after Bellegarde stepped down, will not be running, but a number of other people have indicated they are interested.

Jonathan was the first woman to hold the post of FSIN chief.

The new chief will be chosen at an assembly taking place in Saskatoon on Oct. 28-29.
