WINNIPEG – More than 200 people gathered in Winnipeg for the very first Red Shoe Crew walk in support of Ronald McDonald House.
The three kilometre walk kicked off Saturday morning in six different locations around the province including Winnipeg, Brandon, Steinbach, Winkler, Dauphin and Waywayseecappo First Nation.
“We’re so excited to launch the first annual Red Shoe Crew Walk in support of keeping families close at Ronald McDonald House. This walk responds to the needs of our families from all over rural Manitoba who wish to support our cause”, said Allison Kesler, Chief Executive Officer of the charity, in a press release. “The amount of growth our House has experienced in the last two years has been incredible and the walk will help us continue to serve our families.”
Participants collected pledges ahead of the walk to go towards the charity. For every $100 raised, walkers were entered to win a trip for two to anywhere WestJet flies. For every $1,000 raised in pledges, they received a pair of shiny, Ronald McDonald shoes.
Organizers are hoping to raise $38,000 for the Ronald McDonald House.
