8-month-old baby found dead, left in car nearly 10 hours

A woman in Ohio Wednesday returned to her car to find her eight-month-old grandson dead in the back seat. She says she had no idea he was even in the car.

The Macedonia Police Department says Jayce Markell Benjamin was pronounced dead around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities explained that a parent or guardian drove the Benjamin’s four children to a daycare at approximately 8:00 a.m., dropping off three of the kids, before returning to the family’s residence in Garfield Heights in Macedonia, a community between Cleveland and Akron.

Jayce, somehow, remained in the third row seat of the Buick Rendezvous.

Three hours later, the children’s grandmother took the vehicle to work at Walmart. She says she never looked in the back seat.

The child’s mother contacted the grandmother around 5:30 p.m. to indicate only three of her children returned home from daycare.

That’s when Jayce was discovered in the car — nearly ten hours since he was first put inside.

An investigation is currently ongoing. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
