QUEBEC CITY – The province’s nursing federation has walked away from bargaining with the provincial government.

The nurses’ union said they will not return to the negotiating table until they get a better offer, insisting they haven’t made any progress with the government after eight months of talks.

They said a new offer from the government is still a long way from what’s needed to reach an agreement.

“We need a complete new offer. We understand that we will maybe not get the best, but this is not at all what we are looking for,” said Line Larocque with the Quebec Federation of Nurses.

“If this government is there to give services to the population, they have to look at it in another way.”

The province also presented a new proposal to the teachers’ unions, but they replied saying the offer was nothing but provocation.
