A San Francisco man is being rewarded with a year’s worth of free pizza for being a good citizen.
Mike Vegas just wanted to relax with some pizza and wings Friday night, but was called into work last minute at AT&T Park in San Francisco. He grabbed a slice of pie and left.
“I didn’t even look at it and took off to work,” Vegas told ABC7. “My phone started blowing up and I wasn’t looking at the random messages. I was at work so I wasn’t answering.”
The delivery man was frantically trying to get in touch with him after realizing his costly error.
Almost $1,300 in cash was sitting in Vegas’ fridge in a box in which wings are usually packaged.
When Vegas returned home at 5 a.m. after a long night at work, he found the cold hard cash when he opened the box, expecting to find wings.
“The first thing I opened, there was cash. I’m a little confused. I’m tired,” he told NBC Bay Area.
He said he did consider keeping the money, but couldn’t bear the thought of living with the guilt.
“I think anybody who’s honest with themselves, everybody has that thought, I think that’s the truth,” he said. “But I couldn’t keep it. Not with a good conscience.”
Vegas wrote on Facebook that he is relieved that returning the cash may have saved the delivery man’s job and is looking forward to any good karma that may be headed his way.
