Florida woman with over 3,500 knives in her home arrested after trying to stab officer

A Florida woman was arrested Tuesday after authorities used force to enter her home and – police say – she attempted to stab a police officer. But it’s what they found after the arrest that will make your jaw drop.

Neighbours allege that Brooksville resident Nickcole Ellen Fay Dykema had a history of causing problems.

“I was just petrified all the time,” Dorothy Clagg told WTSP. “She had a habit of banging on the inside of her house all the time on the walls, and screaming and hollering.”

Paula Deford’s home security cameras even caught Dykema slashing her window screen and attempting to cut cables connected to an air conditioner.

Sergeant Chris Calderon arrived at Dykema’s home Tuesday night to assist probation and parole officers serve multiple felony warrants, according to a release. But after repeated requests to open the door were answered with obscenities, Calderon forced his way in.

Police say Dykema “utilized a large sword or machete type weapon and attempted to stab Sergeant Calderon” – barely missing the officer. Sergeant Bill Hillman then fired a less-than-lethal bean bag round at her but that had little effect. She eventually armed herself with more weapons and advanced, getting hit with more rounds in the process.

Corporal Stephen Miller’s taser took her down and she was quickly restrained.

“It amazes me that these deputies were able to take her into custody without anyone being injured,” Sheriff Al Nienhuis said. “It shows the level of their restraint and professionalism under very difficult and dangerous conditions.”

That’s when the story took a strange turn.

Exploring the house further, authorities eventually removed 3,714 “bladed weapons” from Dykema’s residence.  Many received minor injuries because weapons, blankets, floors and even the yard were booby trapped.

Blades hung from the walls and ceiling fans, according to CBS. An altar, lined by hatchets and skulls, was also found along with a large pentagram clad in skeletons.

“I don’t want her to come back and terrorize the neighbourhood, because that’s what she has done,” Deford added.

Dykema has since been charged with three counts of probation violation, property damage/criminal mischief, resisting officer without violence and assault.

The case remains under investigation.
