RCMP investigate attempted child abduction in Lawrencetown

LAWRENCETOWN, NS – RCMP are investigating an attempted child abduction that happened this morning in Lawrencetown.

Halifax District RCMP said they received a call at 7:45 am to Atlantic View Elementary School to investigate an attempted child abduction that occurred at around 7 am at a bus stop near Maple Drive and Highway 207- less than two kilometres from the school.

Police said a 10-year-old boy was waiting at a bus stop when a black pickup truck drove past him and stopped at the community centre. A man got into the passenger side of the truck, which then drove to the Lawrencetown Grocery store across from the bus stop. The passenger got out of the truck and waved at the boy to come over. The boy ignored the man. The driver got out of the truck, and yelled at the boy to, “come over here and get in my truck.” The boy ran to a relative’s home, then went home to tell his father what happened. The boy and his father went to the school to report what happened.

The driver and passenger of the truck are described as white men in their 20’s. The truck is described as a 2003-era black Chevrolet pickup truck with a red pinstripe running down the side. It had a red fuel door, five amber marking lights on the roof, and a broken tailgate handle.
