Victim of Dartmouth homicide officially identified as Kevin Farren

HALIFAX – Police in Halifax have officially identified the victim of a homicide late last week.

Halifax Regional Police have confirmed the victim was 61-year-old Kevin Farren, of Waverly.

Farren was found dead inside a Dartmouth residence Mar. 9.

Police were called to the single-family house at 56 Havenbrook Hill, in the Portland Hills subdivision, at about 2:26 a.m.

Investigators deemed his death a homicide Saturday following an autopsy.

Police took two men into custody for questioning Friday morning, but they were later released without charges.

The home where Farren’s body was discovered belongs to Mohammed Rashidi, who lives there with his 22-year-old son, Davood.

Farren is listed on the Nova Scotia Joint Registry of Stocks as the registered agent for Rashidi’s company, Newport Construction Ltd.

Rashidi was reportedly out of the country at the time Farren was killed.

On Sunday, people who knew Farren told Global News he was a friendly, helpful neighbour and a repsected man in the community.

“Kevin was a well-respected and a happy member of our congregation, says Father Duncan McMaster, of St. Rose of Lima Parish.

McMaster had the difficult task of telling parishioners of the murder as Sunday’s mass.

“(It’s) a total shock,” McMaster said. “Couldn’t understand why a gentle man and a kind man has to die this way.”

The investigation is ongoing and police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact police at (902) 490-5016 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-222-TIPS (8477).
Crime Stoppers also accepts anonymous tips online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or in a text message, by texting TIP 202 and your message to 274637.

This is the third homicide in the Halifax-area in 2012.

On Feb. 2, police found 25-year-old Marc Bernard Tremblay suffering from stab wounds on the corner of Ashdale Ave. and Titus St., in the city’s Fairview neighbourhood. Tremblay died not long after paramedics arrived on the scene.
