WINNIPEG — It was a chilly wake up for many Manitobans on Friday.

At 7 a.m. in Winnipeg the temperature was a cool 4 degrees Celsius, and let’s be honest it wasn’t a great week either with strong winds, cloudy skies and below seasonal temperatures.

But things are about to change! (At least in the short term).

Southern Manitoba is going to see a surge of warm air that continues to work its way eastward across the prairies. That means we are in for a glorious weekend weather-wise.

The average temperature for this time of year is 20, and we are looking at daytime highs of 25C on Saturday and 26C for Sunday.

It also appears like we’ll stay fairly dry with not much in the way of precipitation in our weekend forecast.

Despite a few cooler days, September began with a bang. We’ve already enjoyed three days where the temperature was 30 degrees or warmer. Last year we had just one in the entire month (September 26th, 30.2 degrees).

September 2014 was fairly kind to us with 15 days over 20 degrees.

The long term forecast suggests we’ll be back to cooler temperatures to start the work week on Monday. So if you’re looking for one last warm weather weekend at the cottage, or that season-ending barbecue, take advantage of the summer-like temperatures this weekend.
