LETHBRIDGE – An official ground breaking was held in west Lethbridge Thursday for The Crossings, which is the newest commercial development located adjacent to Chinook High school. Calgary-based Royop Development Corporation said it’s the city’s largest commercial development since Park Place Mall.
The development, on the far west end of Whoop Up Drive, will include a No Frills grocery store, Rexall Drugs, Boston Pizza, Original Joe’s, Tim Hortons, Subway and gas station as well as local retailers like dentists, financial institutions and medical offices.
“Seventy per cent is leased right now and we are really hoping marketing will lead to local businesses filling up the rest of the space with local hair and nail salons,” said Jeremy Thal, the vice president of leasing for Royop Development Corporation. “It’s an opportunity that does not come around very often.”& Leasing
Mayor Chris Spearman said this initial phase is a $30 million investment, which is the also the most expensive commercial investment in the city since Park Place Mall.
“It’s the largest investment in ages and a significant turning point for Lethbridge,” said Spearman.
Lethbridge residents will see the first businesses open in June 2016.
