A Surrey man who pleaded guilty to killing three people is in court to learn his fate.

In April, Sarbjit Bains pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and one count of manslaughter.

Bains pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the death of Amritpal Saran, and two counts of second degree murder for the deaths of Jill Lyons and Karen Nabors.

Nabors and Lyons were found dead in the same New Westminster apartment building in August, 2013, about two weeks apart from each other. Details of their deaths have not been released at this time.

Both women were known to each other and were working as online escorts. They lived in the same building, but in different units.

Saran’s body was found burned on Colebrook Road in Surrey on Feb. 24, 2013. Saran was known to police but had no gang affiliations.

Family and friends of the victims packed the courtroom on Thursday for day one of the sentencing hearing. Many read victim impact statements.

Both Crown and counsel are looking for a life sentence with no possibility of parole for 18 years.
