Long weekend could mean long waits for Calgary drivers

Some of Calgary's busiest streets could see serious congestion over the long weekend because of ongoing road work. Global News

CALGARY- If you’re staying in the city for the Labour Day Long Weekend, you’ll need to be prepared for some serious construction work taking place on some of the city’s most used thoroughfares.

The project that may have the biggest impact is the removal over Flanders Bridge over Crowchild Trail. It’s a major artery many football fans use to get to McMahon Stadium for Calgary Stampeders games and the Stampeders will host the Edmonton Eskimos for Monday’s Labour Day Classic.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

And it could be a chaotic commute in a number of other parts of the city as part of Glenmore Trail is having paving work done, utility work is taking place on Edmonton Trail, and on Sunday the Calgary Pride Parade will see a number of key downtown streets closed for the afternoon.

For a full list of road closures this weekend, you can visit the City of Calgary’s website.
