EDMONTON – A 50-year-old St. Albert man is facing impaired driving charges after a collision sent an elderly pedestrian to hospital with serious injuries.
On Tuesday, Sept. 1, RCMP were called to a crash on St. Vital Avenue near the St. Albert Catholic Parish Church.
Officers discovered an 81-year-old woman had been struck by a 2010 red Hyundai Accent. She sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
William McNamara has been charged with impaired driving, driving while blood alcohol content was over .08 and driving while disqualified.
McNamara also faces additional charges stemming from a collision that happened on Saturday, Aug. 29. That two-vehicle crash happened in St. Albert as well, on St. Albert Trail near Bourdreau Road. No one was injured in that crash.
Following that incident, McNamara was charged with impaired driving, driving while blood alcohol content was over .08 and assault of a police officer.
He was arrested, released on $1,400 bail with conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 14 and Sept. 28 to face the charges.
After the Sept. 1 incident, McNamara’s vehicle was towed.
