Internal Sask. RCMP investigation into injured suspect

BLAINE LAKE, Sask. – An internal investigation has been launched after a suspect was injured while fleeing from Saskatchewan RCMP on Aug. 29. The incident began when Blaine Lake RCMP were called to a stabbing on the Mistawasis First Nation.

Two victims were found and were treated by EMS for their injuries. The men were released at the scene.

Mounties located the 20-year-old suspect walking on a back road on the reserve. The Saskatoon man was detained and RCMP found cocaine in his possession.

After being searched, the suspect ran into a nearby field. While being pursued by RCMP, the man sustained a non-life threatening injury.

RCMP will not specify as to how the suspect was hurt at this time.

The suspect was taken to hospital in Shellbrook, Sask. for treatment of his injuries. He has since been released from police custody.

A senior RCMP member was assigned to conduct an investigation into the circumstances relating to the suspect’s injury and report their findings to the province.

In addition to the internal investigation, the RCMP have requested the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer.

The initial stabbing complaint is also under investigation and charges against the suspect are pending.
